Biography

The Movimento Negro Raízes (Black Roots Movement) is a Brazilian social and cultural organization founded in January 2018 in Bento Gonçalves, in the Serra Gaúcha region. Its primary objective is to promote the Black cause, addressing issues such as racism, prejudice, and religious intolerance, while also celebrating Black culture and the representation of Black men and women in society. The movement engages with schools, universities, cultural spaces, and businesses through pedagogical lectures, workshops, and events that showcase Black cultural manifestations in all their aspects.

Since its inception, Movimento Negro Raízes has expanded its reach, establishing a representative in Pelotas in March 2023. This expansion has further solidified its presence in the state, particularly in Pelotas, a city recognized for its significant Black population. The movement operates through social media, facilitating connections among its members, and has been recognized nationally by the Ministry of Culture as a "Ponto de Cultura" (Culture Point) in Bento Gonçalves.

Movimento Negro Raízes is dedicated to raising racial awareness, particularly within basic education, aiming to ensure that Black students have equal opportunities as they progress through the educational system. The movement also participates in cultural and social actions in partnership with other local and regional entities, and organizes events to commemorate significant dates related to Black history and culture. The organization has received accolades, including a "Voto de Congratulações" from the Caxias do Sul City Council and awards such as the "Zumbi dos Palmares".
