Biography
Mumuzinho, stage name of Márcio da Costa Batista, was born in Rio de Janeiro on December 14, 1983, standing out on the Brazilian music scene as a prominent pagode singer, songwriter, and actor. The artist grew up in the neighborhood of Realengo, in the West Zone of Rio, and earned his nickname in childhood from his family, who noticed a resemblance between his older brother and the renowned sambista and humorist Mussum. Before consolidating his career in music, Mumuzinho built a trajectory as an actor in important national film productions, such as Xuxa Popstar, City of God, City of Men, and Elite Squad, in addition to being part of the cast of high-ratings television programs, such as Esquenta! hosted by Regina Casé.
Mumuzinho's prominence in pagode began to gain momentum in the late 2000s, a period during which he performed opening acts for genre exponents like Belo and Exaltasamba, and worked as a backing vocalist for Dudu Nobre. His artistic consecration was driven by striking partnerships with major names in Brazilian music, including participations in projects alongside Zeca Pagodinho and Alcione. Over the years, the singer has released commercially and critically successful albums, such as Dom de Sonhar and A Voz do Meu Samba, achieving important nominations for international awards, such as the Latin GRAMMY in the Best Samba/Pagode Album category with the project Resenha do Mumu.
In addition to his consolidated discography, Mumuzinho expanded his artistic work to television as a judge and coach in renowned musical reality shows, such as The Voice Brasil and The Voice Kids, where he played a prominent role in discovering new talents. His most recent discography and audiovisual projects, including the DVD Conectado, continue to reaffirm his importance in the contemporary pagode scene. Keeping the roots of samba alive and engaging with new sounds, the artist continues to sell out shows and collaborate with important exponents of national music.
