Biography
Mundo Livre S/A is a Brazilian musical band that emerged in 1984 in Recife, Pernambuco. The band's name was inspired by speeches given by the American president Ronald Reagan, reflecting their distinctive perspective on culture and politics. Originating in the coastal neighborhood of Candeias, the group became deeply intertwined with the local artistic scene and cultural innovation.
The band was one of the founding acts of the renowned Manguebeat movement, sharing its roots with the drafting of the manifesto Caranguejos com Cérebro, which served as a milestone for modernizing traditional Pernambuco music. Fred Zero Quatro, the band's vocalist, co-authored the manifesto alongside Renato L. and Chico Science. Over the decades, Mundo Livre S/A helped shape the alternative Brazilian rock and tropicalia-infused landscape.
Throughout their career, the group released influential studio albums such as Samba Esquema Noise and Carnaval Na Obra, collaborating and sharing stages with various contemporary artists like Nação Zumbi. Their musical style blends traditional northeastern rhythms with rock, punk, and electronic elements, cementing their legacy in Brazilian popular music.
