Biography
Murilo Antunes Fernandes de Oliveira was born in Pedra Azul on June 25, 1950. A poet, songwriter, and advertising professional, he is widely recognized as one of the fundamental lyricists of the Clube da Esquina movement. He spent part of his childhood in Montes Claros, where he came into contact with Beto Guedes, and moved to Belo Horizonte at the age of 15. In the capital of Minas Gerais, he consolidated friendships with central figures of the music scene such as Fernando Brant, Toninho Horta, Tavinho Moura, Lô Borges, Márcio Borges, Flávio Venturini, and Cláudio Venturini.
In 1972, he participated in the inaugural listening session for the iconic Clube da Esquina album at the Borges family residence. His songwriting acclaim came in 1978 with the composition of the song "Nascente", recorded on the album Clube da Esquina 2, the same year he also debuted in literature with the poetry book O gavião e a Serpente. Although he came close to pursuing a career as a professional soccer player at Atlético, he definitively chose an artistic path in 1968, the year he composed his first song, "Super Heroi".
His vast body of work features notable partnerships with great names in Brazilian music, resulting in compositions recorded and celebrated over decades. His importance and artistic journey were immortalized in the documentary "Murilo Antunes: Como Se a Vida Fosse Música", released in 2012 and directed by Fernando Batista, which featured testimonials from collaborators such as Ronaldo Bastos and Márcio Borges.
