Biography

Nailor Proveta, born Nailor Aparecido Azevedo in Leme, São Paulo, on May 25, 1961, is a highly acclaimed Brazilian instrumentalist, composer, and arranger. His musical journey began at a very young age, influenced by his father, Geraldo Azevedo, an accordionist and keyboardist. Proveta started playing the clarinet at age six and was already performing in his father's band and the municipal band of Leme by his early teens. His professional career took off in São Paulo, where he joined the orchestra of Maestro Sylvio Mazzuca at just sixteen years old.

With a career spanning over three decades, Proveta is a prominent figure in Brazilian instrumental music. He is the founder and leader of the renowned Banda Mantiqueira, a big band that has earned a Grammy nomination and is celebrated for its updated interpretations of Brazilian music. Proveta's versatility is evident in his mastery of both the clarinet and saxophone, instruments he plays with exceptional skill and a deep interest in timbre and sound exploration. He has shared stages and collaborated with numerous Brazilian and international artists, including Natalie Cole, Benny Carter, and Ray Conniff, and has been a sought-after session musician and arranger for countless recordings.
