Biography

Nando Carneiro, artistic name of Fernando Ribeiro Carneiro, was born in Belo Horizonte on June 26, 1953. Brother of the poet Geraldo Carneiro, he began his musical journey studying piano in childhood and, later, deepened his knowledge of the acoustic guitar, harmony, and conducting alongside important masters. His professional career gained momentum when he founded the group A Barca do Sol, with which he recorded important albums in the 1970s and collaborated with names such as Olívia Byington.

Throughout his career, Nando established himself as an outstanding acoustic guitarist, conductor, and composer, building partnerships of great international prominence. He was part of projects and performed concerts alongside Egberto Gismonti, in addition to collaborating with artists such as André Geraissati and John Neschling, with whom he co-authored the soundtrack for the film Kiss of the Spider Woman. His solo discography encompasses works such as Violão, Mantra Brasil, and Topázio, as well as productions in partnership with musicians like bassist Zeca Assumpção.

Currently, Nando Carneiro lives in Rio das Ostras, where he acts as director and arranger of the Kuarup Orchestra, dedicated to training young talents. With stints in innovative instrumental projects, such as the Luxo Artesanal Quarteto, he maintains a plural body of work that dialogues with Brazilian instrumental music and the classical universe. His contribution to national culture also includes works related to theater and film, expanding his artistic legacy.
