Biography

Natiruts is a prominent Brazilian reggae band founded in 1996 in Brasília by singer, songwriter, and musician Alexandre Carlo. Initially known as Nativus, the group emerged as a university project and released their self-titled debut album in 1997, later changing their name due to trademark issues. Over nearly three decades, the band became one of the most successful and listened-to reggae acts in the Portuguese-speaking world, blending traditional Jamaican roots reggae with distinct Brazilian musical influences, dub, and world music elements.

The group released several acclaimed albums and landmark live audiovisual projects, such as the massive hit album "Natiruts Reggae Power" in 2006 and the celebrated 2012 acoustic record filmed at Morro Dona Marta in Rio de Janeiro. Throughout their journey, they collaborated with numerous notable Brazilian artists, including Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, and Raimundos, while establishing themselves internationally. In 2024, the band announced their farewell tour, culminating their active career after leaving an enduring legacy on the Brazilian national music scene.
