Biography

Nego Alvaro, born Alvaro dos Santos Carneiro in Rio de Janeiro, is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and percussionist deeply rooted in the traditional samba scene. Growing up in the Catiri favela in Bangu, he received his first tambourine at the age of ten and quickly immersed himself in the rich musical culture of his city, attending legendary gatherings such as the Pagode da Tia Doca and performing professionally at the Pagode da Tia Ciça by age fifteen.

Throughout his career, Nego Alvaro has become a staple of Rio de Janeiro's vibrant samba circles. In 2008, he joined the renowned Cacique de Ramos and began performing at the Clube do Cozido, where he crossed paths with major figures of the genre like Zeca Pagodinho, Arlindo Cruz, and Beth Carvalho. His association with Moacyr Luz led to a major breakthrough when he joined the celebrated Samba do Trabalhador collective, participating in acclaimed live recordings and further solidifying his reputation within the community.

As a solo artist, he released his debut album Cria do Samba in 2016, produced by Pretinho da Serrinha, followed by subsequent acclaimed works like Nego Alvaro canta Sereno e Moa and the EP Bons Ventos.
