Biography

Luiz Antônio Feliciano Marcondes, widely known as Neguinho da Beija-Flor, was born in Nova Iguaçu on June 29, 1949. The son of a musician, he began his artistic journey in childhood, winning a children's singing contest at age ten by interpreting a theme by Jamelão. After adopting the nickname linked to his humble origins, he made his professional debut as a samba singer in the Leão de Iguaçu block in 1970, before transferring in 1975 to Beija-Flor de Nilópolis, the samba school that definitively marked his career and to which he dedicated nearly five decades as its official interpreter.

Throughout his trajectory at Beija-Flor, he established himself as one of the greatest pillars and interpreters of Rio's Carnival, becoming noted for his famous battle cry "Olha a Beija-Flor aí, gente!" and for his powerful and well-tuned voice. In addition to his striking performances in samba school parades, he recorded several successful albums and hit compositions of great popular repercussion, such as "O Campeão (Meu Time)" and "Ângela", besides interpreting classics alongside important names of Brazilian music like Dona Ivone Lara and Silas de Oliveira.

His strong connection with the Nilópolis-based association led him to incorporate his stage name into his actual birth certificate and to retire from the sambadrome after the 2025 parade, the year he completed fifty years at the helm of the school's sound car. Winner of innumerable awards, including Estandarte de Ouro and Tamborim de Ouro trophies, Neguinho remains active in his musical career, planning new projects and partnerships with artists like Xande de Pilares.
