Biography

Nelson Cândido Motta Filho is a prominent Brazilian journalist, songwriter, author, screenwriter, record producer, and playwright. Born in São Paulo and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Motta became a pivotal figure in Brazilian popular culture, collaborating with legendary artists such as Elis Regina, Lulu Santos, and Marisa Monte. His early career included winning the national phase of the First International Song Festival in 1966 with the song 'Saveiros', composed alongside Dori Caymmi.

Throughout his extensive career, Motta has written over three hundred songs, created influential television programs like Chico & Caetano, and produced major musical festivals. He played a crucial role in the evolution of Brazilian rock and bossa nova, while also working as an artistic director for Warner Music. Beyond his musical contributions, he is a celebrated author, having penned best-selling biographies and memoirs, including works on Tim Maia and Glauber Rocha, as well as hit fiction novels.

Motta's influence extends deeply into theater and journalism, where he has scripted and conceived major biographical musicals such as Elis, a Musical and Tim Maia – Vale Tudo. He has lectured at prestigious global institutions including Harvard and Oxford, and maintained a long-running cultural column on Brazilian television.
