Nelson Rufino de Santana is a prominent Brazilian composer and singer born in Salvador, Bahia. Before establishing himself in the world of samba, he spent time in Rio de Janeiro pursuing a career as a professional football player. Upon returning to Salvador, he dedicated himself to songwriting while simultaneously working as a metalworker, a trade he maintained until the mid-1980s.

His distinctive compositions have enriched the Brazilian musical landscape, gaining prominence through recordings by legendary interpreters of samba such as Roberto Ribeiro, Alcione, and Zeca Pagodinho. Over the decades, Rufino has collaborated with various renowned artists and contributed significantly to the tradition of samba and popular music in Brazil.
