Biography

Nélson Silva was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, actor, producer, and radio broadcaster born in Rio de Janeiro. After touring with the musical ensemble Águias da Meia-Noite, he arrived in Rio Grande do Sul in 1943 and ultimately settled in Porto Alegre, where he became a prominent figure in local media and culture. Throughout his career, he worked extensively in radio, television, and theater, notably serving as a department director at Rádio Farroupilha and TV Piratini, while also performing in plays such as Auto da Compadecida.

In addition to his contributions to broadcasting and the arts, Nélson Silva cemented his legacy within Brazilian football culture by composing the official anthem of Sport Club Internacional, famously known as "Celeiro de Ases". Originally a supporter of Flamengo, he became a passionate fan of the Porto Alegre club and penned the anthem in 1957. His musical work for the team reflected its identity as the "Clube do Povo" (People's Club) and remains an enduring part of the region's sports and cultural heritage.

His multifaceted career intertwined popular music, broadcasting, and sports, making him one of the most notable cultural figures associated with Rio Grande do Sul's artistic scene.
