Biography

Nestor Pereira Campos, known artistically as Nestor Campos, was a Brazilian composer, instrumentalist, guitarist, double bassist, and ensemble leader. Born in São Luís de Piratininga, São Paulo, on March 6, 1920, Campos began his musical career with an ensemble that frequently performed in São Paulo nightclubs. His versatility led him to work as a guitarist on Rádio Nacional in Rio de Janeiro, demonstrating his importance in the musical scene of the time.

Throughout his career, Nestor Campos collaborated with various artists and had his compositions recorded by other musicians. In 1951, he performed with Helena de Lima and Djalma Ferreira in the northern region of the country. The following year, his "Baião do sul" was recorded by Zaccarias e Seu Conjunto. In 1954, he was invited by Dick Farney to join his ensemble as a guitarist, participating in the recording of the choro "João Sebastião Bach", co-authored by both of them. His work "Mulatinho", in partnership with Mesquita, was also recorded in 1953.

Campos released his own LP, "Música da Noite – Volume 1", in 1956, with his nightclub ensemble. His work as an instrumentalist was remarkable, with recordings by Columbia and Musidisc, and prominence as an ensemble leader. His career extended until at least 1962, leaving a legacy of compositions and performances that enriched Brazilian popular music.
