Biography

Neuber Francisco Melo Uchôa, artistically known as Neuber Uchôa, is a singer, songwriter, and poet born in Boa Vista, Roraima, in 1959. He began his musical career early, singing on variety shows at three years of age. At 13, he started learning the acoustic guitar and, from 18 onwards, began composing more seriously. In 1984, he joined Zeca Preto and Eliakin Rufino to form the Trio Roraimeira, a movement that became a milestone in Roraima's culture by valuing regionalism through the fusion of indigenous, Caribbean, and Brazilian roots music. The trio is recognized for praising the natural beauties and the culture of the indigenous peoples of Roraima, seeking to build a cultural identity for the state and attract tourists.

With more than a dozen released records, including solo and collaborative albums, Neuber Uchôa is considered one of the living treasures of Roraima's and Amazonian music. His work, which includes songs like "Cruviana", addresses northern pride and the passion for Roraima. He has performed at various festivals, such as the Marajoara Festival of Amazonian Culture, and had the opportunity to take his music abroad, performing in Germany alongside Zeca Preto. His contribution to Brazilian culture was recognized with the medal of the Order of Cultural Merit in 2018, alongside Zeca Preto and Eliakin Rufino.

Neuber Uchôa is also a member of the Roraima Academy of Letters and received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the State University of Roraima. He has dedicated himself to exploring and disseminating the musical wealth of the Amazon, seeking to connect the urban music of Belém and the interior of Pará with the cultural roots of the region. His house in Boa Vista has become a cultural center, highlighting his commitment to artistic and cultural diffusion.
