Biography

Noemi Cavalcanti, born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo, in 1926, was a singer who left her mark on Brazilian popular music, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. Her career gained prominence when she joined the second lineup of the Trio de Ouro in 1950, alongside Nilo Sérgio and Herivelto Martins, following Herivelto's separation from Dalva de Oliveira. This experience cemented her presence on the musical scene of the era.

In 1952, Noemi formed a duo with Nilo Chagas, which led to a new configuration of the Trio de Ouro, featuring Herivelto, Raul Sampaio, and Lourdinha Bittencourt. In addition to her participation in the trio, Noemi also formed the duo "Irmãs Cavalcanti" with her sister Odemi. Together, they released notable recordings such as the baião "Lumiô, lumiô" and the guarânia "Ponta Porã", demonstrating the duo's versatility.

Noemi Cavalcanti also contributed her own compositions, such as the rasqueado "Terra distante", in partnership with Pereirinha. Her career, although marked by important participations in groups like the Trio de Ouro and the Irmãs Cavalcanti duo, did not receive due attention from the media upon her passing in 2001, a reflection, according to some, of the ephemeral memory of Brazilian popular music. Her work, however, remains as a record of her time in MPB.
