Biography

Raimundo Nonato Buzar was a central figure in Brazilian music between the 1960s and 1970s, standing out as a composer, singer, and musical producer. Born in Maranhão and of Lebanese descent, he settled in Rio de Janeiro in 1953, where he built a solid career that united samba, balanço, and the aesthetics of the movement known as "pilantragem". His ability as a composer allowed his works to be immortalized in the voices of Brazilian music giants, such as Elis Regina and Wilson Simonal, in addition to names like Alcione and Maysa.

As a producer, Buzar played a fundamental role at the PolyGram and RCA Victor record labels, shaping the sound of artists like Jair Rodrigues and the group A Turma da Pilantragem. He was one of the mentors behind this movement, which brought a playful and rhythmic approach to the samba and pop of the era. During the 1970s, he spent a period living in Paris, an experience that influenced his sound upon returning to Brazil with the album "Nonato Buzar e o País Tropical".

The greatest success of his authorship, the song "Vesti Azul", became an anthem in the voice of Wilson Simonal and continued to resonate decades later, achieving international recognition in recordings by Ithamara Koorax. Buzar passed away in 2014, in Rio de Janeiro, leaving a vast legacy that connects Maranhão regionalism to the sophistication of Carioca urban music.
