Biography

Norma Geraldy, stage name of Ione Sartini, was born in São Paulo on December 21, 1907. The daughter of Italian immigrants, she adopted her stage name at the suggestion of director Olavo de Barros in honor of the French poet Paul Géraldy. She began her artistic career after moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1927, where she initially sought opportunities on the radio and stood out as a lyric singer, possessing a beautiful soprano voice that led her to perform in operas and operettas throughout Brazil and South America.

Throughout her career in music and theater, Norma sang on special occasions, such as for the soldiers of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force during World War II, and joined the prestigious Dulcina-Odilon theater company. In spoken theater, she was recognized for her strong stage presence and ability to portray highly dramatic characters.

Only at the age of 71 did she make her television debut in the telenovela Te Contei?, later establishing herself as a beloved figure by the public by playing charming grandmothers in various telenovelas. Norma Geraldy passed away in Rio de Janeiro on December 2, 2003, leaving a significant legacy in the Brazilian performing arts, alongside major theater names such as Dulcina de Moraes.
