Biography
Founded in 2009 in the city of São Paulo, the band O Terno established itself as one of the pillars of Brazilian independent rock in the 2010s. The power trio, initially formed by Tim Bernardes, Guilherme d'Almeida, and Victor Chaves, began its journey performing classics by groups such as Os Mutantes before focusing on an original repertoire. The debut album, '66', released in 2012, was received with enthusiasm by specialized critics, featuring both original songs and compositions by Maurício Pereira, quickly becoming a reference for the new São Paulo scene.\n\nOver the years, the group expanded its sonic boundaries, transitioning from its initial garage rock to more sophisticated arrangements that dialogue with tropicalismo, soul, and MPB. The band played a fundamental role in organizing the independent market by co-founding the RISCO label, which hosted artists such as Luiza Lian. Artistic recognition came accompanied by significant collaborations with historical names in Brazilian music, including recordings with Tom Zé and performances alongside Nando Reis and Arnaldo Antunes.\n\nWith the addition of Gabriel Basile on drums in 2015, O Terno continued refining its aesthetic in acclaimed albums such as 'Melhor do que Parece' and '<atrás/além>', the latter achieving international projection. After 15 years of activity and a series of successful tours across Brazil and abroad, the band announced an indefinite hiatus in 2024, performing its final show at the Coala Festival in São Paulo.
