Biography
Luiz Octávio Bonfá Burnier, known artistically as Octávio Burnier, is a renowned Brazilian singer, songwriter, arranger, acoustic and electric guitarist, born in Rio de Janeiro on July 28, 1952. Nephew of the celebrated acoustic guitarist Luiz Bonfá, Burnier began his musical journey early on, participating in university music movements at age 15 and meeting figures such as Aldir Blanc, Gonzaguinha and Ivan Lins. His recording career began with the release of his first album under the name Octávio Burnier in 1979. Throughout his career, he has used various pseudonyms, including Otavinho Bonfá, Távio Bonfá, Tavinho Bonfá and, more recently, Tavynho Bonfá, reflecting the different phases and markets of his career.
Burnier also formed the duo Burnier & Cartier with violinist Claudio Cartier in the late 1960s, releasing their first album in 1974. As a songwriter, he scored hits such as "Clarear", in partnership with Mariozinho Rocha, recorded by the group Roupa Nova and the theme song of the Rede Globo soap opera "Jogo da Vida". His versatility has led him to collaborate with various artists and perform on international stages, including the Sydney Opera House in Australia and in New York. In addition to his musical career, Burnier holds a degree in advertising.
His work spans genres such as MPB and jazz, demonstrating a deep connection with Brazilian music. The influence of his uncle Luiz Bonfá is notable, but Octávio Burnier has built his own artistic identity, marked by harmonic and melodic sophistication. He is an example of an artist who masterfully transitions between different strands of Brazilian popular music, leaving a legacy of compositions and performances that enrich the country's musical scene.
