Biography

Oduvaldo Vianna Filho, better known as Vianinha, was a renowned Brazilian playwright, actor, director, and communist militant. Born in Rio de Janeiro on June 4, 1936, Vianinha was the son of fellow playwright Oduvaldo Vianna and radio soap opera writer Deocélia Vianna. His artistic and political trajectory was intrinsically linked to the pursuit of a national drama that reflected Brazil's social and economic reality, especially during the military dictatorship period.

Vianinha began his theatrical career as an actor in 1955, joining the São Paulo Student Theater. His performances and engagement led him to participate in the founding of important cultural groups and movements, such as the Arena Theater in São Paulo and the National Union of Students' Center for Popular Culture (CPC), as well as the Opinion Group in Rio de Janeiro. His dramatic work is marked by social criticism and the representation of the "simple, working man," in contrast to foreign cultural influence. Among his best-known plays are "Chapetuba Futebol Clube" (1959), "Se Correr o Bicho Pega, Se Ficar o Bicho Come" (1966), and "Rasga Coração", completed shortly before his death in 1974 and which remained censored for five years.

In addition to his contribution to theater, Vianinha also worked in television, being one of the creators of the popular series "A Grande Família" in 1973. His career was cut short by his death on July 16, 1974, at the age of 38, from cancer. Oduvaldo Vianna Filho's legacy endures as a landmark in the history of Brazilian theater and television, symbolizing artistic resistance and the pursuit of engaged, transformative art.
