Biography

Ordinarius is a Brazilian a cappella vocal group formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2008. The group is known for its sophisticated vocal arrangements, often reinterpreting classics of Brazilian popular music, choro, samba, and pop.

The name "Ordinarius" is a wordplay on the surname of the group's founder, musical director, and arranger, Augusto Ordine. The ensemble typically features six vocalists and a percussionist, though some arrangements also incorporate light instrumentation such as guitar, ukulele, and cavaquinho. Their musical style is characterized by precise vocal harmonies and a focus on the voice as the primary instrument. Their repertoire spans a wide range, from the Golden Age of Brazilian radio to contemporary MPB, as well as international pop and rock.

Ordinarius has released several acclaimed albums, including "Ordinarius" (2012), "Rio de Choro" (2015), "Notável" (2017), which pays tribute to Carmen Miranda, and "Bossa 20" (2019), celebrating the 60th anniversary of Bossa Nova. The group has toured extensively in Brazil, Europe, and the United States, gaining international recognition for their unique approach to vocal music. They have also participated in educational events, conducting workshops on Brazilian music.
