Biography

Oriente is a Brazilian rap group that emerged in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, in 2008. The band is known for blending rap with other musical styles such as MPB, reggae, and rock, creating a unique and original sound that has resonated with Brazilian audiences. Their lyrics often delve into themes of love, society, spirituality, and overcoming challenges, delivered with a distinctive flow and profound messages. This fusion of genres and thoughtful lyricism has set Oriente apart in the national rap scene.

Formed from rhyme battles, the group initially consisted of MCs Chino and Nissin, violinist Nobru (Bruno Silva), and DJ Geninho BeatBox. Oriente was among the pioneers in leveraging digital platforms to promote their music, significantly impacting the independent music market. Their success led to performances at major festivals like Rock In Rio and Planeta Atlântida, and sharing stages with international artists such as Damian Marley and Wiz Khalifa, alongside tours in the USA and Australia. They were also recognized for their acoustic projects, which were considered groundbreaking in Brazil.

Over the years, Oriente has released several albums, including "Desorientado" (2011) and "Yin Yang" (2017), featuring collaborations with prominent artists like Black Alien, Criolo, and Zeca Baleiro. Hits such as "Máximo Respeito" and "Linda, Louca e Mimada" have garnered widespread popularity, with the latter even featuring actress Agatha Moreira in its music video. In 2021, DJ Geninho Beatbox departed from the group, and by 2024, Oriente celebrated 15 years of career, continuing to mark generations with their music and preparing for new acoustic projects.
