Biography
Orlando Correia was a Brazilian popular singer and mechanic, born in Niterói. Discovered in 1947 by Cyro Monteiro at a festival in his hometown, Correia was introduced to the radio scene, initially performing on Rádio Mayrink Veiga's Ademar Casé program. Throughout the early 1950s, he established himself as a prominent radio artist, working with stations such as Rádio Guanabara and Rádio Clube do Brasil.
His career reached a major milestone with the release of the samba-canção "Meu sonho é você," composed by Átila Nunes and Altamiro Carrilho. The recording became a massive hit, topping the charts in late 1951 and earning him recognition as the best male revelation of the year by Correio da Manhã. He followed this success with other notable recordings, including the samba "Sistema nervoso," which was praised by critics as one of the best Brazilian recordings of 1953.
Alongside his musical endeavors, Correia maintained a career as a mechanic, later owning both a hotel and an automotive workshop. After enjoying a successful tenure during the golden age of Brazilian radio, he eventually moved to Maricá in the 1980s, where he lived until his passing in 2002. His contributions to samba and samba-canção cemented his legacy alongside contemporaries like Cyro Monteiro.
