Formed in November 2006 in Olinda, Pernambuco, the Orquestra Contemporânea de Olinda (OCO) is a vibrant collective that bridges traditional Pernambucan musical heritage with contemporary global sounds. Conceived by percussionist Gilú Amaral, the band brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds and generations, united by a passion for sonic innovation. Their music is a rich tapestry woven from the threads of frevo, coco, samba, and maracatu, infused with influences from afrobeat, ska, jazz, and funk, creating a unique and dynamic sound that has captivated audiences across Brazil and internationally.

The OCO's distinctive sound is characterized by its powerful brass section, featuring tuba, saxophone, and trombone, complemented by a robust rhythm section and the evocative sounds of the rabeca and vocals. This instrumentation reflects their deep roots in the musical traditions of Pernambuco, particularly the legacy of the Grêmio Musical Henrique Dias, a renowned music academy in Olinda.
