Biography
Os Cobras was a Brazilian musical group formed in the early 1960s. The original ensemble featured musicians such as Tenório Júnior (piano), José Carlos “Zezinho” (double bass), Paulo Moura (alto sax), Meirelles (alto sax and flute), Raul de Souza (trombone), Hamilton (trumpet) and Milton Banana (drums).
In 1964, Os Cobras released their self-titled album, "O LP", which included tracks like "Nanã" (composed by Moacir Santos and Mário Telles), "Depois de amor", "Praia", "Uganda", "Menina demais", "Adriana", "Moça da praia", "Mar amar", "Quintessência", "40 graus", "Chão" and "The Blues Walk". The album was produced by Roberto Jorge and featured contributions from musicians such as Roberto Menescal (acoustic guitar), Ugo Marota (vibraphone), Cipó (tenor sax), Aurino (baritone sax) and Jorginho (flute). The following year, the song "Nanã" was included in the compilation "Movimento 65".
The group was honored in 1966 by the Jazz and Bossa Club, in a session held at the Golden Room of the Copacabana Palace Hotel. It is worth noting that the name "Os Cobras" was also associated with other musical projects featuring different line-ups at various times.
