Biography

Copacabana Beat is a Brazilian musical group formed in Rio de Janeiro during the early 1990s, initially starting as a vocal trio. They were launched by renowned producer Michael Sullivan in partnership with DJ Marlboro, quickly gaining prominence in the Brazilian music scene with their blend of funk melody and contemporary R&B. Their breakthrough hit "Mel da Sua Boca", originally released on the compilation album Funk Brasil Especial, dominated radio airwaves across the country and cemented their place in the genre alongside contemporaries like Claudinho & Buchecha.

Over the decades, the group underwent several lineup changes and evolved into a full band format featuring musicians on keyboards, bass, and drums, while continuing to produce independent albums. Notable members across their history include original vocalist Andrea Beat, Carlinhos Conceição, and later singers such as Clara Carolina and Alexandra Aranha. The group expanded their musical palette over the years, releasing albums like their 2017 tribute "Saudade do Síndico", which infused soul music inspirations reminiscent of Tim Maia into their repertoire.

Throughout their career, Copacabana Beat has maintained a steady presence in Brazilian popular culture, highlighted by television appearances such as on Domingão do Faustão and a vast discography spanning over two decades. Their ability to adapt their sound—moving from 90s funk melody to zouk, swing nacional, and soul—keeps them connected to fans of Brazilian dance music. They share musical affinities and performance circuits with popular artists of the Brazilian funk and pop scene such as Latino and Buchecha.
