Biography
Os Espaciais was a vocal and instrumental ensemble formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1960s. The band consisted of José Afonso Caldas Pereira (drums), Sérgio A. Menezes (bass), Edgar Lima (lead guitar), Paulo César (rhythm guitar) and Lúcio (organ). The group stood out for their instrumental technique and performances in clubs and dances of the era. They recorded an LP titled "Na Crista da Onda" in 1967, which included hits like "Garotinha Linda" and "Era Um Garoto Que Como Eu Amava os Beatles e os Rolling Stones".
The ensemble also accompanied singer Jorge Paiva on recordings, such as on the song "Naquele Avanço". In 1969, the band changed its name to Psico, altering their musical style toward hard rock. Despite their short career under the name Os Espaciais, the group left their mark on the Brazilian music scene of the 60s, influencing other artists and participating in TV shows.
Os Espaciais are remembered as part of the jovem guarda movement and the musical effervescence of Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s. Their sound, which blended international influences with elements of Brazilian music, contributed to the diversity of the musical scene at the time. The band also had a Portuguese version with the same name, which released EPs between 1966 and 1968, even collaborating with singer Berta Monteiro.
