Biography

Os Garotin is a Brazilian musical trio formed in 2019 by Anchietx, Cupertino, and Leo Guima. Hailing from São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, the group has carved a unique niche in the Brazilian music scene by seamlessly blending genres such as MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), soul, R&B, and pop. Their music is characterized by its contemporary approach, distinct identity, and rich vocal harmonies, which have quickly set them apart as a prominent voice in the new generation of Brazilian artists.

The trio's musical education was shaped by both their church upbringing and the vibrant streets of São Gonçalo. This dual influence is evident in their sound, which draws from the melodic and harmonic structures learned in church, combined with the "malandragem" or street smarts that infuse their music with a unique Brazilian flair. They cite influential Brazilian artists such as Tim Maia, Cassiano, Djavan, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso as key inspirations, continuing the legacy of Brazilian soul music while infusing it with modern R&B and pop sensibilities.

Os Garotin gained significant recognition with their debut album, "Os Garotin de São Gonçalo," which earned them a Latin Grammy Award for Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album in 2024. They were also nominated for Best New Artist at the same ceremony. Their music often explores themes of Black representation, love stories, social critique, and the culture of Rio de Janeiro's peripheries, exemplified by their tribute song "Vini Jr." to the footballer from their hometown. The group's commitment to artistic growth is also seen in their multidisciplinary projects, which extend their music's universe into visual arts, further enriching their narrative and connection with audiences.
