Biography

Os Megatons was a Brazilian rock band formed in São Paulo in the early 1960s, initially as an instrumental group. Founded by bassist Joe Primo, who was also a member of the legendary group "The Jet Black's", the band's early lineup included Renato on guitar, Joe Primo on guitar, Luiz Moreschi on guitar, Carlão on electric bass, and Edgard on drums. Their first LP, released in 1965 by Philips, featured instrumental tracks such as "Vôo do besouro" and "Infinito".

In 1966, Os Megatons underwent a significant transformation with the addition of vocalist and guitarist Bitão, and guitarist and vocalist Sodinha (Antonio Carlos Cortez), while Renato departed. This lineup shift allowed the band to incorporate vocals into their repertoire. Influenced by bands like The Byrds, Os Megatons were known for their distinctive use of the 12-string guitar, played by Luiz Moreschi. This unique sound led to them being invited to accompany singer Bobby di Carlo on his recordings, including the hit "Tijolinho".

The band's success grew, leading them to collaborate with other artists such as Antonio Marcos and Marcos Roberto. They released several singles with the label Mocambo – Rozenblit and later signed with Odeon. In 1968, Os Megatons were preparing to record an LP, but due to personal reasons among the members, the group disbanded.
