Biography

Os Selvagens were a Brazilian rock group formed in 1965 in Rio de Janeiro by brothers Leonardo Cario and Mário Cario. Initially, the band featured the two brothers on guitars, but soon expanded with the arrival of Hilton Ribeiro on bass and Edgard Borges on drums, consolidating the lineup that would perform at various dances around the city.

The group's musical career gained national projection with the signing of a contract with the Caravelle record label, which released their self-titled debut LP in 1968. The album featured a repertoire that mixed original compositions and cover versions of international hits, such as "Vivo Pra Você (Catch Us If Can)" and "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place". In the following years, the band released more albums through Epic/CBS, exploring sounds ranging from young guard pop to soul and funk influences, relying on the collaboration of producers like Rossini Pinto and musicians like Hyldon and Michael Sullivan.

Throughout their career, Os Selvagens recorded a total of five LPs, performing at dances and in cities all over Brazil. Despite having emerged during a period of musical transition in the country, with the decline of Jovem Guarda and the rise of Tropicália, the group left its mark on the Brazilian rock scene of the 60s and 70s, with a legacy of recordings that reflect the effervescence of the era.
