Biography

Os Serranos is a traditional gaucho musical ensemble created on September 20, 1968, in the city of Bom Jesus, in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul. The project was born from the union of accordionists Edson Dutra and Frutuoso Araújo, who formed a duo and decided to expand the lineup with other instrumentalists to meet requests for dances and shows.

Throughout decades on the road, the group has established itself as one of the main exponents of nativist and traditionalist music in Southern Brazil, winning important awards such as the Califórnia da Canção Nativa and gold records for landmark albums. In addition to touring throughout the country and Mercosur nations, Os Serranos also expanded borders with international tours to the United States and maintained a strong presence in the media through radio programs.

With a history spanning over half a century, the ensemble has gone through several lineup changes, remaining active in the recording of albums and DVDs that celebrate gaucho culture. Renowned names of regional music have passed through the group, which continues to influence new generations alongside artists such as Leopoldo Rassier and Joca Martins.
