Biography
Os The Darma Lóvers is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1998 by musicians Luis Nenung and Irínia Taborda, also known as Yang Zam. The group was born from the fusion of the contemplative experiences of Tibetan Buddhism and sounds that moved through punk rock, psychedelia, and tropicalia, coining a style of their own frequently associated with "zen rock" and pop mantras. Throughout their 25-year trajectory, the core lineup counted on the collaboration of various artists from the independent scene and consolidated a discography with standout albums like "Laranjas do Céu", released in Brazil and France.
The band expanded its lineup with the entry of instrumentalists like Marcelo 4Nazzo, Thiago Heinrich, and Jimi Joe, besides maintaining major partnerships with renowned names of Brazilian music. Artists like Dado Villa-Lobos, Moreno Veloso, Alexandre Kassin, and Wander Wildner participated in different moments of the group's trajectory, while compositions by the main duo gained recordings and new interpretations by performers like Paula Toller.
After ending activities with a commemorative concert in 2022, the band's legacy continued to reverberate through Nenung's solo career and the artistic developments of its members. The group's work remains documented in six albums that record one of the most original aesthetic proposals of national alternative rock, dialoguing both with the tradition of psychedelic folk and the tropicalist avant-garde.
