Biography

Os Vips was a prominent Brazilian vocal duo formed in São Paulo by brothers Ronald Antonucci and Márcio Vip Antonucci. Initially performing under separate pseudonyms, the brothers united as a duo in 1964 and quickly secured a recording contract with Continental, taking their name from a popular international film of the era. Their early work became heavily intertwined with the vibrant Jovem Guarda movement, establishing them as household names across Brazil.

Throughout their career, the duo achieved massive commercial success by recording numerous compositions written by Roberto Carlos, including iconic hits such as "A Volta" and "É Preciso Saber Viver". Alongside their original material and collaborations with prominent figures of the Brazilian rock and pop scene, Os Vips gained widespread acclaim for recording Portuguese-language cover versions of songs by The Beatles, expanding their appeal among youth culture in the 1960s.

Despite pursuing individual business ventures and temporary separations in the subsequent decades, the duo reunited for nostalgic Jovem Guarda revival projects, notably releasing a successful live album in the early 1990s. Márcio Antonucci passed away in 2014, followed by Ronald Antonucci in 2024, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the history of Brazilian popular music and the Jovem Guarda era alongside contemporaries like Lílian Knapp.
