Biography

Osmar Milito was a renowned Brazilian pianist and composer, widely celebrated as one of the greatest figures in jazz and bossa nova history. He began his artistic journey in 1964, accompanying legendary voices of Brazilian music such as Nara Leão, Maria Bethânia, Vinícius de Morais, and Elis Regina, quickly establishing himself as a vital presence in the scene.

His career soon expanded internationally when he was invited to perform in Mexico and the United States, where he lived for two years and collaborated with Sérgio Mendes. After returning to Brazil in the 1970s, Milito worked alongside iconic artists like Chico Buarque, Ivan Lins, and Hermeto Pascoal, while also sharing the stage with major international stars including Liza Minnelli and Sarah Vaughan.

Throughout his prolific career, Milito released multiple LPs and CDs, contributed to film soundtracks, and composed music for Rede Globo telenovelas. He also helped shape the nightlife and instrumental music landscape in Rio de Janeiro by founding groups that featured talents like Márcio Montarroyos and Djavan, cementing a legacy that spanned decades before his passing in 2024.
