Biography

Osmar Daumerie, known professionally as Osmar Navarro, was a Brazilian singer and prolific songwriter born in Rio de Janeiro on November 19, 1930. He passed away on January 5, 2012, in São Vicente, São Paulo. Navarro was a significant figure in Brazilian popular music, credited with over a thousand compositions. His career spanned several decades, during which he released six LPs and approximately twenty singles.

Navarro achieved immense success with his 1959 hit "Quem é?", which sold over a million copies and was famously featured as the theme song for the Rede Globo telenovela "Estúpido Cupido." His songwriting prowess extended to other notable songs such as "A namorada que sonhei," which was recorded by Nilton César, and "A mais bonita das noites," first performed by the sertanejo singer Samara and later by the renowned duo Chitãozinho & Xororó. He also produced high-quality shows and supported emerging artists in the Santos region, including Eneida Lais, Tarcisio Góes, Lobão, and Leninha.

Throughout his career, Osmar Navarro received numerous accolades, including the "Microfone de Ouro" (Golden Microphone) award. His work left a lasting impact on Brazilian music, with his songs continuing to be remembered and performed.
