Biography

Osvaldir & Carlos Magrão was a prominent Brazilian musical duo from Rio Grande do Sul, known for their significant contributions to regional gaúcho music and nativista culture. Formed in Passo Fundo in 1985 by Oswaldir Didoné Souto and Carlos Eugênio Knop, the duo spent 32 years active in the scene, releasing numerous studio albums and an acclaimed live record before parting ways in 2017. Their extensive career helped popularize traditional southern rhythms combined with regional folk expressions to audiences across Brazil.

The duo gained widespread recognition with hits like "Lago Verde Azul", "Querência Amada", and the satirical track "Tetinha", which won the Festival Rimula Shell de Música Regional Brasileira at the Olympia in São Paulo. Throughout their trajectory, they shared stages and collaborated with notable figures of southern Brazilian music, performing alongside artists such as Luiz Carlos Borges, Dante Ramon Ledesma, and Rui Biriva. Their legacy remains deeply tied to the promotion of gaúcho heritage through music, influencing younger generations of regional performers.
