Osvaldo Oliveira, also known as Vavá da Matinha, was a Brazilian singer and composer born in Belém, Pará, in 1959. He began his musical career in the late 1950s, performing on radio variety shows. Oliveira gained popularity for his songs that blended elements of forró with influences from northern Brazil, drawing comparisons to Jackson do Pandeiro but with a distinct regional flavor.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Oliveira released numerous albums, experimenting with various genres including samba, bolero, and romantic ballads. He achieved significant commercial success, particularly in the 1970s, with his song "Só Castigo" becoming a major hit and reportedly outselling Roberto Carlos in record sales in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil in 1972. This period solidified his reputation as a prominent figure in Brazilian popular music, especially within the brega genre.

Oliveira's career spanned several decades, with his discography including albums like "Eterna Lembrança do Norte" (1961), "Jogo do Amor" (1970), and "Ontem e Hoje" (2007).
