Biography

Otto Maximiliano Pereira de Cordeiro Ferreira, known mononymously as Otto, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, drummer, and television actor and presenter, born on June 28, 1968, in Belo Jardim, Pernambuco. He is recognized as a foundational member of the pioneering Mangue Bit band Mundo Livre S/A, where he served as the drummer from 1984 to 1996. His early life in Recife, Pernambuco, was marked by friendships with key figures of the burgeoning music scene, including Chico Science and Fred 04, with whom he would co-found Mundo Livre S/A, a band that, alongside Science's Nação Zumbi, became a cornerstone of the Mangue Bit movement.

After leaving Mundo Livre S/A in 1996, Otto launched a successful solo career. His debut album, "Samba pra Burro" (1998), was critically acclaimed for its innovative fusion of traditional Brazilian genres like samba and MPB with electronic elements, drum and bass, and rap. This distinctive sound continued to evolve through subsequent albums such as "Condom Black" (2001), "Certas Manhãs Acordei De Sonhos Intranquilos" (2009), and "Ottomatopeia" (2017), the latter of which was recognized by Rolling Stone Brazil as one of the best albums of the year. Otto's music is characterized by poetic lyrics and a rich tapestry of sounds that reflect the complexity of contemporary Brazil.

Otto's artistic journey extends beyond music; he has also worked as an actor and television presenter. His eclectic approach to music, blending regional rhythms with global influences, has solidified his reputation as one of Brazil's most innovative artists. He has collaborated with numerous artists throughout his career, further expanding his musical horizons and contributing to the diverse landscape of Brazilian music. His live performances are known for their passion and energy, delivering his unique sound to audiences both in Brazil and internationally.
