Biography

Formed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1983, Overdose is considered one of the pioneering bands of Brazilian heavy metal. The band's debut was significant, as in 1985 they released a split album with Sepultura, "Século XX / Bestial Devastation," which is a landmark in the Brazilian underground metal scene. This release was also the first LP from Cogumelo Records.

Over the years, Overdose evolved sonically, starting with influences from traditional heavy metal and even progressive elements. However, it was in the 1990s that they solidified a heavier identity, delving into thrash/groove metal. Albums like "Conscience…" (1987), "Addicted to Reality" (1990), "Circus of Death" (1992), and "Scars" (1995) showcase this evolution and have become cult classics among fans.

Despite periods of hiatus, the band has maintained its relevance. In recent years, Overdose has reactivated, reissuing classic albums and presenting new material. The single "Século XXI" marked this new phase, followed by "João Sem Terra," which combines heavy riffs with social commentary on inequality and agrarian issues, incorporating elements of Brazilian regional music. With a renewed lineup but retaining the core essence led by guitarist Cláudio David, Overdose continues to be a reference and one of the most important and respected names in Brazilian metal history.
