Biography

Formed in March 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Pacto Social emerged during the vibrant Brazilian rock scene of the 1980s. Heavily influenced by British punk bands like the Sex Pistols and The Clash, as well as The Who, the group quickly established itself as a prominent force in the carioca punk rock movement. Their early years were marked by a relentless dedication to live performances, playing in diverse venues and contributing to the underground music scene.

Pacto Social's debut album, 'Pobre Geração,' was released in 1998, followed by their first music video for "Vaticano" on MTV, which garnered significant attention and praise. This led to their first European tour in 2000, solidifying their international presence. The band also played a crucial role in promoting cultural exchange by bringing European punk acts to Brazil, such as The Varukers and GBH, and sharing stages with major Brazilian artists like Sepultura, Raimundos, and Nação Zumbi.

Throughout their career, Pacto Social has released several albums, including "Cantar/Protestar" (2001) and "Hasta La Lucha Y Viva Zapata" (2004), selling over five thousand copies. They have continued to be active, releasing a live DVD in 2018 and undertaking further European tours. The band's current lineup features Wladimir Palmeira on vocals and guitar, Luiz Gustavo on bass, Juhnior on guitar, and Marcelo MDM on drums, maintaining their legacy as pioneers of Brazilian punk rock.
