Biography
O Pandeiro Repique Duo is a musical project formed by percussionists Bernardo Aguiar and Gabriel Policarpo. Emerging in 2009, the duo stands out for the fusion of the sounds of the pandeiro and the repique, emblematic instruments of Brazilian music, especially of the carioca soul. The group's proposal is to explore the versatility and sound possibilities of these instruments, going beyond their regional origins and creating a unique and limitless sound.
Bernardo Aguiar, with his virtuosity on the pandeiro, and Gabriel Policarpo, on the repique, performed together for the first time in 2008, during the PercPan festival. Starting in 2009, they formalized O Pandeiro Repique Duo and began a trajectory of shows and workshops throughout Brazil, Europe, and South America. Their debut album, released in 2012, reflects the duo's live performance, using only pandeiros and repiques, sometimes accompanied by their voices. The record features special guest appearances by renowned artists such as Yamandú Costa, Nicolas Krassik, and Marcos Suzano.
In addition to their musical performances, O Pandeiro Repique Duo is dedicated to music education, teaching workshops at various festivals, social projects, and music schools around the world, including institutions such as The Juilliard School in New York. The duo has performed alongside major names in Brazilian music, such as Hamilton de Holanda and Alcione, and has participated in prominent international events, such as PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) in the United States. With nearly two decades of career, O Pandeiro Repique Duo continues to explore the "melody of rhythm," taking Brazilian percussion to global stages.
