Biography

Papa Poluição was a pop-rock group formed in São Paulo in 1975. The band stood out for its experimental sound, mixing MPB with rock, northeastern influences and a touch of irony and good humor, reminiscent in some aspects of Novos Baianos.

The original lineup featured Paulinho Costa (vocals and guitar), Luís Penna (guitar and vocals), Beto Carrera (guitar and vocals), Tiago Araripe (acoustic guitar, percussion and vocals), Bill Soares (bass and vocals) and Xico Carlos (drums). Most of the members had northeastern origins: Tiago, Bill and Chico were from Ceará, while Paulinho and Luís were from Bahia.

During their brief career, which lasted until approximately 1980, Papa Poluição released two 7-inch records: a double by Chantecler in 1976, with the songs "Rola Coco", "Guerra Fria", "Em Nome Do Rock" and "Brechando Nas Gretas", and a single by Top Tape in 1977, containing "Tua Ausência" and "Inferno Da Criação". After the end of the group, some of its members pursued solo careers or joined other musical formations.
