Biography

Papangu is a Brazilian band formed in 2012 in the city of João Pessoa, standing out for their eclectic sound that moves through progressive rock, avant-garde metal, and MPB. The group prominently incorporates elements of the culture and rhythms of Northeastern Brazil, such as forró and maracatu, blending them with influences from jazz fusion, black metal, and stoner rock. The band's name is a tribute to the papangu, a traditional character from the Carnival of Bezerros, in Pernambuco.

In 2021, the group released their anticipated debut album, Holoceno, which received critical acclaim from specialized media and was included in the best albums of the year list by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA). Following that, they released the conceptual album Lampião Rei in 2024, a project that further expanded the band's international reach with releases abroad and appearances at major heavy music festivals.

The band's trajectory is marked by important milestones of expansion and consolidation in the musical scene, including performances at festivals such as Knotfest Brazil and Lollapalooza Brazil. The group also expanded its borders with international tours in Europe and the recording of new studio works, such as the album Celestial, reaffirming their prominent position in the vanguard of national heavy music alongside contemporary names in the scene.
