Biography

Patife Band is an influential Brazilian musical project formed in São Paulo in 1984 by musician, singer, and songwriter Paulo Barnabé. The group emerged as one of the leading exponents of the Vanguarda Paulista, incorporating contemporary classical composition techniques, asymmetrical rhythms, and atonal elements into the universe of rock and punk rock.

Throughout its trajectory, the band went through several line-ups and established itself in the underground scene with the release of the self-titled mini-LP in 1985 and the acclaimed album Corredor Polonês in 1987. The group's striking songs have been covered by important exponents of Brazilian music, such as Cássia Eller, Ratos de Porão, and Pato Fu, in addition to being featured on soundtracks like that of the film Cidade Oculta.

After long periods of hiatus and returns to the stage, Patife Band's work has remained a fundamental reference of Brazilian post-punk, being highlighted in international compilations and specialized publications. The project maintains a deep connection with other central names of the vanguard and Brazilian experimental music, such as Arrigo Barnabé and Itamar Assumpção.
