Biography

Paulinho Boca de Cantor, artistic name of Paulo Roberto Figueiredo de Oliveira, was born in Santa Inês on June 28, 1946. He began his artistic journey working as a crooner for Orquestra Avanço, in Salvador and the interior of Bahia, before gaining national prominence.

In 1969, he was among the founders of the iconic MPB group Novos Baianos, alongside artists such as Pepeu Gomes, Baby Consuelo, Luiz Galvão, and Moraes Moreira. In the band, he stood out as one of the main composers and participated in the recording of fundamental albums, including the acclaimed Acabou Chorare, in addition to having introduced vocal sound to the trio elétricos starting in 1976.

With the end of the group's activities in 1979, he began his solo career with the release of the album Bom de Chinfra e Bom de Amor, featuring partnerships with names such as Gilberto Gil. Throughout his career, he collaborated with great exponents of national music and participated in important international spectacles, such as the show Bahia de Todos os Sambas, held in Rome alongside Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, and João Gilberto.
