Biography

Paulo Artur Mendes Pupo Nogueira, artistically known as Paulinho Nogueira, was born in Campinas and established himself as one of the great names in Brazilian instrumental and popular music. Although he began his professional career as a draftsman, he soon abandoned it to dedicate himself entirely to music as a self-taught artist, standing out as a classical guitarist, composer, singer, and teacher.

Throughout his career, he created striking works such as the "Bachianinhas" — influenced by the admiration he had held since childhood for the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach — and lyrical songs like "Menina". Also recognized for his innovation, he was the inventor of the craviola and served as Toquinho's first master, in addition to having his songs recorded by renowned artists such as Jane Duboc, Jair Rodrigues, Yamandú Costa, and Badi Assad.

His vast discography includes emblematic albums such as "A voz do violão" and "Brasil, violão e sambalanço", alongside partnerships and tributes to other great exponents of our culture. Paulinho Nogueira passed away in São Paulo on August 2, 2003, leaving an indelible legacy for the Brazilian acoustic guitar and being widely remembered for his contribution to the harmony and promotion of the country's music.
