Biography
Paulo Barroso is a composer, musician, performer, and audio and video producer born in São Paulo, SP, on September 22, 1952. He began his musical journey in 1967, at the age of 15, learning acoustic guitar self-taught and later studying with teachers and maestros. His early compositions were influenced by the Beatles and Jovem Guarda. In 1968, he participated in dance bands and school performances. Throughout the 1970s, Barroso participated in and won awards at various student festivals, in addition to performing on TV shows. He also joined the "Cooperativa Musical", a collective of independent musicians and composers, and participated in important shows, such as the "May 1st" concert in São Bernardo, alongside artists like Elis Regina, João Bosco, Fagner, and Gonzaguinha.
In 1980, he released his first self-authored record, the LP "Vozes da Cidade", one of the first independent works in Brazil, which was praised by critics and played on alternative radio stations. Faced with difficulties in the musical environment, Barroso also dedicated himself to video production starting in 1986, opening his production company "Bem te Video". Despite a hiatus in his musical career, he always returned to music, later releasing the double album "As Marés" in 2015, featuring 28 songs. His work spans various rhythms and styles, with influences ranging from Bossa Nova to Tropicalism and MPB, demonstrating the versatility of an artist who, despite his talent, is still little known to the general public.
