Biography

Formed in Recife, Pernambuco, in 1997, Paulo Francis Vai Pro Céu carved a unique niche in the Brazilian music scene with their acidic and irreverent style. The band released several demo tapes, including the notable "Na Cama Com Ariano," and their official CD "Sasha." Their music found its way onto compilations like "Brasil Compacto" and "Rock da Cidade," and they contributed to the soundtracks of short films by Kléber Mendonça Filho. Paulo Francis Vai Pro Céu was a prominent act in Pernambuco's music festivals, such as Rec-Beat, PE No Rock, and Abril Pro Rock.

The band gained national recognition by winning an MTV VMB award for their music video "Perdidos no Espaço," a significant achievement for a Recife-based group. In contrast to many of their contemporaries who blended rock with regional music, Paulo Francis Vai Pro Céu proposed the "Movimento Aterro," a counterpoint to the prevailing cultural euphoria. Their classic song "Eu Queria Morar em Beverly Hills" was notably covered by Wander Wildner, with whom they also shared several acclaimed performances in Recife.

Paulo Francis Vai Pro Céu's humor was often corrosive and satirical, challenging norms and conventions. Their music, characterized by irony and a raw, rock-and-roll spirit, stood out in the Recife music scene. Though never officially disbanded, the group left a lasting impression on Brazilian rock, influencing subsequent artists with their distinctive approach to songwriting and performance. The band's members included André Balaio on vocals and bass, Gustavo Roubada on drums, Christiano Ameba on guitar, and Gordo on bass.
