Biography
Paulo Leminski Filho was born in Curitiba on August 24, 1944. A writer, poet, musician, and translator of remarkable relevance in Brazilian culture, he became known for his experimental and innovative poetry, characterized by the use of haikus, puns, neologisms, and a strong influence from the avant-garde and Eastern literature. In addition to his vast literary work, which includes iconic books such as "Caprichos e Relaxos" and "Catatau", Leminski maintained a strong connection with Brazilian popular music, having compositions recorded by various nationally renowned artists and maintaining close contact with fundamental names of our artistic scene.
His residence in Curitiba served as a meeting point and center of cultural irradiation, receiving exponential figures of Brazilian music such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Moraes Moreira, and Itamar Assumpção. Leminski's poetry also found an echo in the voice of his daughter Estrela Ruiz Leminski and in popular songbooks, consolidating his presence at the intersection of literature and song. Throughout his career, he was deeply connected to avant-garde movements and concrete poetry, dialoguing with intellectuals and creators of his time.
Paulo Leminski passed away on June 7, 1989, in his hometown, leaving an indelible legacy that continues to influence generations of poets, composers, and readers. His complete works, collected posthumously, became an editorial phenomenon and definitively established his name in the history of Brazil's culture.
