Biography
Paulo Lepetit is a prominent Brazilian bassist, composer, and music producer who emerged as a key figure in the independent music scene of São Paulo. He began his professional career in the early 1980s as a member of Isca de Polícia, the iconic backing band for the vanguard artist Itamar Assumpção. Lepetit's rhythmic foundation and creative bass lines became a signature of the "Vanguarda Paulista" movement, blending experimentalism with Brazilian grooves.\n\nThroughout his career, Lepetit has balanced roles as both a performer and a producer. As a session and touring musician, he has collaborated with legendary Brazilian artists such as Cássia Eller, Ney Matogrosso, and Chico César. His production work is equally distinguished; he was responsible for the acclaimed album "Pretobrás" by Itamar Assumpção, which earned the prestigious Sharp Prize in 1998. He has also produced records for avant-garde icons like Tom Zé and contemporary talents such as Luisa Maita.\n\nIn addition to his collaborative efforts, Lepetit has released several solo albums, including "Le Petit Comitê" and "Saculeja." He also founded the label Elo Music, where he developed the "Projeto CD7," an initiative aimed at making high-quality music more accessible by producing seven-track albums. One of his most notable late-career projects is "Café no Bule," an experimental collaboration with the percussionist Naná Vasconcelos and the singer-songwriter Zeca Baleiro.
